The Rotary Club of Youngtown - The Gateway to Launceston
Interested in joining Youngtown Rotary?

There are more than 1,200 Rotary Clubs in Australia situated throughout cities and country towns.  Rotarians use their knowledge and vocations as an opportunity to assist others in areas of need both at a local level and in a global capacity to serve humanity where the need is.

The Rotary Club of Youngtown was chartered in 1981 by an enthusiastic group of business people who looked to put something back into the community, and who could see the needs at both a local level as well as a the international community.

Today, Youngtown Rotary prides itself on the many areas of service and assistance it has provided throughout the years, and looks to strengthen this community involvement over the coming years, through integration and consultation with the Youngtown business community.

The many areas we have been involved in, and have donated many man hours, funds or practical assistance within the Youngtown and surrounding community include:
     *  Kings Meadows High School – beautification (the 1st major project
                    undertaken by the club)
     *  Youngtown Primary School - shade areas and re-fencing project
     *  Prizes for excellent achievement on an ongoing basis each year for
                    both these schools
     *  Setting up of the Punchbowl Community Garden
     *  Painting of the Pedestrian Underpass at Hobart Road
     *  Improve and enlarge the Alma Street Playground (this was our
                    25th Anniversary Project)
     *  A memorial seating/BBQ area at St Leonards Primary School
     *  Shade area at Norwood Primary School
     *  Funding to assist with new flooring and kitchen renovations at
                     Ellinson House
     *  Undertook major renovations at the "Time Out House" in Launceston.

These are just some of the many areas involved, with others such as much needed funding raised for renovations at Ronald McDonald House in Hobart, the raising of funds to assist New Horizons to clear their mortgage, assisted in raising much needed funds for Dragons Abreast (North) to purchase a Dragon Boat.  An ongoing project is the replacement of a car (the last car was the tenth to be replaced) used by the Asthma Foundaion in the Norther half of the State.  Money is raised for many more local and international projects and disasters.

We were involved in the ShelterBox project since 2005 until 31st March 2010.

Commencing 1st July 2010 our club will be actively involved in Disaster Aid Australia.  Disaster Aid Australia provides an innovative Australian-based humanitarian aid package: one that provides those in need with a new start in family units within their communities.

To be a part of such a vibrant (yes, in the Rotary year 2005-2006 our club was voted the District Governor’s Club of the Year) is exciting and rewarding.

We not only participate in all those and many more fundraising activities, but we enjoy doing so.Rotary Club of Youngtown meets weekly on a Monday night (5:45pm for a 6:15pm start) at the Abel Tasman Motor Inn, 303 Hobart Road, Youngtown, in a relaxed and fun-filled meeting, which sets out to not only achieve great friendship among its members and partners, with many social meetings as part of its agenda, but also to constantly be aware of its responsibilities and the need to assist others.

To be a member can be beneficial to you as an individual, giving you the opportunity to give back to the community, as well as developing wonderful lasting friendships, both locally, nationally and internationally.  Our involvement with overseas and local projects is both exciting and rewarding.

The benefit in being in Rotary is what you make it.  You do not have to commit to more than you are able to give in time, and Youngtown Rotary believes in the balance between family, work commitments and Rotary.  It is supportive of its members and their families, and one of its strongest assets is the friendship and fellowship it has developed between all.

If you think you may be interested in joining a vibrant and dedicated group of local people, send an email to the email link provided.  A member of the club will be in contact with you, and discuss your attendance as a guest at our meetings, to enable you to assess whether you think this club is right for you.

We look forward to welcoming you amongst us.
